Some come to Mossel Bay for the beaches, some come for the wildlife, while others come for the history. But everyone stays for its laidback outlook on life.

There’s so much to do in Mossel Bay from adventures like surfing, 4x4 trails, horse riding, deep sea fishing, sky diving and shark-cage diving, to gentle, contemplative things like lazing on the beach or watching for whales (best between June and October). To add to its attractions, it enjoys a mild beach-going climate with more than 300 days of sunshine a year!

Mossel Bay has a long and proud history captured in its museums, such as the Diaz Museum. Modern human behaviour began in the Mossel Bay area 165,000 years ago - we know this from the findings of the Mossel Bay Archaeology project (the biggest archaeology project in the world today). But we’ve come a long way since then, and these days Mossel Bay is a quiet, laidback seaside town with all the infrastructure and the comforts of a modern city, thanks in part to its position as South Africa’s smallest commercial harbour, and in part to its vibrant tourism industry.
