Meandering through and sustaining this magnificent fertile valley, is the Olifants River – lifeblood of the area’s world-renowned citrus industry.

Hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, bird watching and 4x4 trails are a few of the activities to get stuck into, as well as a visit to Golden Valley Wine Cellar.

This area has some of the most prolific examples of rock art in the country and The Baths, a hot springs resort in Citrusdal has two rock art sites open to the public.

The oldest orange tree in South Africa is found on the farm "Heksrivier" in the Citrusdal valley. It is more than 160 years old, still bears fruit and has been declared a national monument.

The N7 between Citrusdal and Clanwilliam is a beautiful, scenic drive, with citrus orchards hugging the road and farm stalls with fruits and home made items at regular intervals.
