Calitzdorp, also known as the port wine capital of South Africa, is ideally situated on scenic Route 62, the longest wine route in the world, in the heart of the Klein Karoo. It’s within a couple of hours’ drive from major tourist attractions in the region and is filled with more architectural treasures and sights than one could absorb in a single visit.

A four-hour scenic drive from Cape Town and the halfway mark to Port Elizabeth, Calitzdorp is the ideal stopover en route to the Garden Route. The village takes pride in its renowned wine industry, particularly in its world-class port wine. Accommodation ranges from camping sites and self-catering to B&B’s and five-star guest houses.

Visit the fertile valley of Groenfontein (Green Fountain) on the foothills of the Swartberg Mountains; Seweweekspoort with its magnificent quartzite rock foldings and highest peak (2325m) in the Western Cape, and Kruisrivier that meets up with the road to the Cango Caves on the way to the Swartberg Pass and Prince Albert.
