DAY 1 | LAINGSBURG


📍 Anysberg Nature Reserve

🐾 Activities on offer: Game drive, birding, swimming, 4X4 route, hiking, mountain biking, horse riding*

Visitors will enjoy regular sightings of the numerous antelope species and black-backed jackal. If lucky, species such as Cape Mountain Zebra, caracal and the critical endangered riverine rabbit can be spotted. Leopards still roam the mountains, although these notoriously shy creatures are seldom seen. About 180 bird species are regularly spotted on the reserve, making it a popular choice for birders. Besides the mesmerizing landscape and rich plant and animal life, the reserve is also home to San rock art, painted thousands of years ago. In the reserve, visitors can also enjoy swimming, a circular 4X4 route, hiking, and mountain biking.

DAY 2 | MATJIESFONTEIN

DAY 3 | PRINCE ALBERT


📍Swartberg Nature Reserve and Swartberg Mountain Pass

The Swartberg Nature Reserve stretches in a long, narrow ribbon between the Great Karoo and Klein Karoo, covering an impressive 121 000 hectares. Declared a World Heritage Site in 2004, it draws visitors back time and again with its vast, unspoilt landscapes and deep sense of tranquility.

Swartberg Pass offers spectacular viewpoints and is a favourite for both scenic drives and mountain biking, with its winding gravel roads and dramatic mountain vistas. Nearby Meiringspoort provides equally beautiful picnic and braai spots set against towering rock faces.

Hiking conditions are ideal from April to May and again from September to October, with trails ranging from gentle day walks to a challenging three-day route that reveals remarkable rock formations, sweeping views and pristine mountain fynbos.

DAY 4 | BEAUFORT WEST

The Cape Karoo is a vast and unforgiving landscape of which the Karoo National Park is but a small portion. Being the largest ecosystem in South Africa, the Karoo is home to a fascinating diversity of life, all having adapted to survive in these harsh conditions. It may have once been considered a one-night stopover, but the Karoo National Park has since become a place offering several activities, including a mountain bike trail, guided and self-guided walks and a selection of 4x4 trails. There is, of course, also breath-taking landscapes – this is the Karoo after all – and an array of plant and animal life to admire.
