Greyton Mountain Marathon

1 day | 42km | 1500m+ Elevation Gain

Greyton Mountain Marathon, now in its sixth year, hosted Greyton’s very first one day marathon last year, and it was an incredible success with a stunning turnout. This year is set to be even better, trail running at its best in one of the most beautiful places in the Western Cape. The route winds along the upper contour of the Sonderend Mountains and the folds that encircle the towns of Greyton and Genadendal. This stunning route is 42 km, 21 km in the Nature Reserve and 21km on the rolling hills opposite the Riviersonderend River.

We’ve veered off the known routes for this one and included a big chunk of unmarked mountainside frequented only by local hikers and those who know their way around obscure hiking websites. It’s pure mountain running.

All proceeds from Greyton Mountain Marathon go towards Greyton House Bursary Fund, providing financial aid to children from disadvantaged communities attending Greyton House Village School. Each step you take supports this worthy cause!

Greyton Mountain Half Marathon

1 day | 21km | 520m Elevation Gain

As far as half marathons go, this one is right up there with the best! A pure half marathon for individual runners. From Greyton you will make your way to the rolling hills opposite the Riviersonderend River. Experience our famous Bakenskop Mountain Biking Route with smooth running and stunning views of the mountains, wildlife and surrounding farms. Truly a gem of a run!

Nature Reserve: 21 km | 1032 m elevation gain (green route, anti-clockwise)

Bakenskop MTB: 21 km | 520 m elevation gain (blue route, anti-clockwise) - Half Marathon Route

Start at Greyton House Village School, No 2 Main Road, Greyton, 7233

You’ll find this charming dorpie 140 km from CT along the N2 and then 32km from the turn off just before Caledon. Watch out for the donkeys between Genadendal and Greyton - the speed limit is 80 km/h for a good reason! Allow 2 hours travel time from Cape Town in usual traffic conditions.
