Recognised globally and inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, the Cape Town Chinese New Year has become a meaningful platform for cultural exchange between China and South Africa.

The opening ceremony will take place on 1 February 2026 at 16:00 at the V&A Waterfront Amphitheatre, featuring a spectacular lineup of performances. Audiences can look forward to dynamic dragon dances, Shaolin martial arts, the mesmerising Sichuan opera face-changing, and a unique fusion of traditional Chinese folk dance with African rhythms.
