The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is excited to announce National Gardens Week 2026. From 9–15 March, all South African citizens and residents are invited to enjoy complimentary access to the nation’s botanical and zoological gardens.

National Gardens Week is more than a visit—it is an opportunity to connect with nature, restore your wellbeing, and celebrate biodiversity. Visitors can enjoy guided tours, educational programs, yoga sessions, or leisurely walks through indigenous flora, while appreciating the essential role gardens play in conservation, education, and community engagement.

Highlights in the Western Cape
Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden
Set against the iconic Table Mountain, Kirstenbosch is a sanctuary of natural beauty. Wander among ancient cycads, vibrant proteas, and fragrant fynbos, and don’t miss the Boomslang treetop walkway—a truly breathtaking experience.

Karoo Desert National Botanical Garden.
