Attending the Sun Met will ensure you kick-start your February in style… literally. Dress to the nines along with thousands of locals and tourists at the biggest racing event on the Cape Town calendar.

The Met is a staple on the SA social calendar. The 50 000 tickets are snapped up, so make sure you don’t delay, because this is a day at the races that you don’t want to miss out on. First run in 1883 (as the Metropolitan Mile), the Met has become one of the biggest racing events in the country with the horses taking centre stage during the day, while the after party continues long into the night.

THE THEME

The theme changes annually and an award is given to the best-dressed, so make sure you bring your A-game in the fashion stakes, you are up against some serious fashionistas! The theme in 2020 will be: African Luxury: Visionaries as the theme for 2020.

Remember, this event attracts the most glam, fashion-conscious people in town—among them, actors, models, and other influencers. If you want to fit in, you’re going have to go all out. If you want to stand out, well… good luck!

TICKETS

The Met is popular, very popular, so you can bet it’s going to get busy. The 50,000 tickets are snapped up, so make sure you get them early. General access can get a bit crowded, so we recommend you look at other ticket options if you want a bit more room to move, with private picnic areas and Bedouin tents just some of the options available.

THE VIBE

The weather around this time of year can get hot so make sure you plaster on the sunscreen and keep some water handy. Get to the race track early to get a good spot by the trees, because once you set up camp, you will be there for the duration of the day. The best spots go quickly.
