Knysna Oyster Festival, 29 June – 8 July

Running for over a week in July, the Knysna Oyster Festival is jam-packed with activities sure to appeal to just about everybody. From oysters and wine to live entertainment and sports, the festival is one of the most popular events in the country and a staple for locals. What makes it so special is the incredible diversity of events on offer – from the annual bicycle race and Forest Marathon to whisky pairings and live music – everybody is catered for at the festival. Race in the morning and relax in the evening, then repeat!

The Jive Cape Town Funny Festival, 9 July – 5 August

The Jive Cape Town Funny Festival is an annual fest of funny with some of the biggest names in comedy – both local and abroad – hitting the stage in the Mother City. The festival runs into August, but its hugely popular, so make sure you get your tickets sooner, rather than later.

Franschhoek Bastille Festival, 14 – 15 July

One of the Western Cape’s most popular winter festivals, the Franschhoek Bastille Festival is a celebration of good food, fine wine and a whole lot of carnival fun. Staying true to the town’s French roots, this colourful festival includes a village market, barrel-rolling competition, boule, and loads of wine tasting.
