Wesgro, the official Tourism, Trade, Investment and Film Promotion Agency for Cape Town and the Western Cape, is pleased to announce that the call for applications for wine producers, wine experiences and wineries across the province to enter into the prestigious Great Wine Capitals Best Of Wine Tourism Awards 2022 is now open.

Celebrating innovation and excellence in wine tourism throughout the greatest wine regions in the world, this annual international competition is designed to reward the wineries in each of the Great Wine Capitals Global Network’s member cities for their excellence in seven different categories, namely:

  • Accommodation
  • Wine Tourism Restaurants
  • Sustainable Wine Tourism Practices
  • Architecture & Landscape
  • Art & Culture
  • Innovative Wine Tourism Experiences
  • Wine Tourism Services

This platform is an excellent opportunity to position the region as a world-class wine destination because considerable media attention is given to the awards and winners.

This year there will be a mentorship programme in place, where the winners of the Best Of Wine Tourism Awards will work alongside some of the winners of the Wine Tourism Ambassador Awards 2022.

Winners of the contest will also be included in an annual global campaign financed by Great Wine Capitals, with advertisements and advertorials booked on popular industry-related media, and social media exposure on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Introducing the Wine Tourism Ambassador Awards 2022

South Africa’s unique history demands that there should be additional awards to celebrate ongoing transformation in the wine tourism industry. Those properties proudly celebrate our culture and heritage, as well as those leaders making innovative efforts to ensure sustainability and conservation in the field.

This WWF Pioneer Award is sponsored by WWF South Africa with funding provided by Pamela and Neville Isdell, and is intended to emphasise the critical role of eco- and social-sustainability in the development and execution of a new generation of relevant, appealing and competitive travel offerings.

The Ambassador awards are:

  • The Wine Tourism Diversity Award
  • The Authentic South African Experience Award
  • WWF Conservation Pioneer Award

Please note that only one of the conservation awards may be entered at a time

Entry fee is R575 including VAT, per category.

“With growing interest from the professional tourism operators in the Best Of Wine Tourism awards, the winners will enjoy the many opportunities and benefits from global collaboration and collective marketing of a unique international brand synonymous with greatness in wine tourism,” said Catherine Leparmentier Dayot Managing Director, Great Wine Capitals Global Network

“The Western Cape is home to world-class wine tourism offerings, and the Great Wine Capitals Best Of Wine Tourism Awards are a perfect opportunity for our wine tourism operators to not only share our winemaking craft, culture and experiences with visitors from across the globe, but to also improve their brand image in the wine and tourism sector globally. Therefore, we encourage them to seize this opportunity and apply,” concluded Wesgro CEO, Tim Harris.
