Take on a three-day adventure in the Weskus.

Day 1

Maskam Brewing Company

Certainly not the worst way to start your day of adventure, the Maskam Brewing Company can be found on the border of Namaqualand in the Western Cape town of Vredendal, where wild spring flowers from the backdrop to the brewery. Their name is derived from a spring in the Maskamberg Mountains, the source of water for their beer. Enjoy a tasting here before heading off for the next stop on your adventure.

Viswater Mountain Bike Trail

Not for the faint of heart, this circular route of approximately 30km that starts at Doring Bay and meanders to Papendorp and back again. It spans a wide variety of surfaces and diverse vegetation. At certain places you will be as close as 50m from the ocean where the cool sea breeze is very welcome on those warm summer days! At the start you will experience incredible single-track paths up to Papendorp and then you will take on an open gravel road back to Doring Bay, just as your legs are getting tired and the southern wind moves around.

The Crayfish Trail

If you love the idea of exploring unspoilt stretches of coastline and pioneering new trails, but hate the thought of carrying a crippling load on your back, then slackpacking is for you.The stretch of coastline between the Berg and Olifants Rivers offers superb hiking opportunities which the Crayfish Trail takes full advantage of. There are a number of different routes from which to choose, including the five day trail and a choice of two day trails, but for today you will be exploring the stretch between Doringbaai and Strandfontein – an undulating hike along the cliffs, with sections of beach along the way.

Day 3

Breakfast at Letsatsi Lodge followed by…

Rocklands Bouldering

Situated in the Cederberg Mountains, Rocklands is a beautiful area in a semi-desert setting. Famous for it's world class bouldering, there are a large variety of quality climbing optios in both bouldering and sport climbing. All the sport routes are single pitch and you will have to do a small amount of walking to get to the different areas. Most of the original climbing is situated on CapeNature land and thus day or week permits must be obtained as permits for bouldering are not covered by Wild Cards. Depending on the time of year you visit, the Weskus can get pretty hot, so we suggest you start your last day of your journey here.

Lunch at Reinholds Restaurant

Certainly not the worst place to end your journey, Reinholds is situated on Main Road in an old Victorian House in Clanwilliam. Enjoy your lunch on the patio, which overlooks a peaceful garden and the Cederberg Mountains. Reinholds serves an extended A la Carte Menu and also boasts a cosy bar for pre-drinks if you prefer to stay for dinner.
