Not many events can boast a New7Wonders of Nature as their centerpiece, but the Ultra-Trail Cape Town — with the iconic Table Mountain Nature Reserve forming a large part of the route — can do exactly that. This relatively new event has just celebrated its fourth anniversary and has quickly solidified itself as a global fixture.

Now if running through the Table Mountain Nature Reserve is not enough of a drawcard, we don’t know what is, but if that’s not enough for you to sign up for the race, the good news is that there is a huge amount more to lure you in.

Covering some of Cape Town’s most recognisable landmarks, including the Constantia Winelands and the upper slopes of the Kirstenbosch Nature Reserve, the UTCT is incredibly popular and a bucket-list event for runners. It has already drawn in some of the biggest names in trail running, including Cape Town superstar Ryan Sandes, and the latest edition is proving as popular as ever with local and international runners.

The 100km event is the main calling card for UTCT, but there is also a 65km, 35km and 21km route for those less inclined to take on the mammoth 100km. Be warned though, because all the routes are challenging with plenty of climbing and technical challenges thrown at you throughout the event.

Spectator Points

There are a number of spectator points for you to support the runners (or for your friends and family to support you) with the start and finish at the Gardens Tech Rugby Club. Other points include Signal Hill, Llundudno, Hout Bay Yacht Club, along the Alphen Trail in Constantia and the UCT Tennis Club.

The Community

The trail running community is a warm and open one and UTCT is no different with a wide range of activities designed to immerse you into the local crew. After registration, you can mix with your favourite elite runners, attend workshops and Movie Night. It’s a great way to warm up for the main event and also allows for those not taking part in the big event to feel like they are involved just the same.
