A mere two-hour drive from Cape Town, the Aquila Private Game Reserve near Touws River boasts the Big 5 and many other iconic African animals, such as the Cape Zebra and Hippo.

The 4-star Aquila Safari Lodge is the perfect place to start your journey into the Cape Karoo with friendly, engaging guides making the experience all the more worthwhile. Stay over in the luxury chalets and treat yourself to a spa experience before embarking on an afternoon game drive, where, with the exception of the notoriously shy leopard, you are all but guaranteed to spot the Big 5.

While at the Reserve, we suggest you visit ARC (situated adjacent to the Aquila main entrance) where you will be introduced to our Eco Synergy Systems that ensures our carbon footprint is minimal.

Various daytrip and overnight options are available and daily transfers are managed by Aquila between all major Cape Town hotels and the Reserve.

Horseback Safari

Blend in on a horseback safari, and get up close and personal with some of Africa’s most beautiful animals. No experience is necessary, and it’s an amazing way to enjoy the natural wonders of the reserve. You’ll need to arrive at Aquila by 9am. You can choose to drive yourself, or simply book one of the scheduled transfers leaving from Cape Town hotels between 6am and 7am in the morning.

Quad Bike Safari

If horseback riding seems a little tame for your tastes, why not rough it up on a quad bike? It’s a firm favourite among guests, and a great way to see the wilderness.

Big Five Fly-In Safari

The Big 5 Fly in Safari departs by plane or helicopter from Cape Town and flies over the Hex River Mountains and vineyards. The towering mountain peaks, rugged ridges, wild bush, waterfalls, and vast plains will leave you awestruck. Once you land, guests are transferred to Aquila. A breakfast buffet, 2-3 hour safari, and lunch in the Africa Boma Restaurant are all included!

Sky diving

One of the newest offerings at Aquila is one for true adrenaline junkies. It’s now possible to take to the air with Skydive Two Oceans, just a stone’s throw from the game reserve. Experience tandem skydiving and a Big 5 safari rolled into one! The experience is available to overnight guests and day visitors.
