One person was injured by a stray bullet, but SAPS and paramedics attended the scene immediately and the injured person was stabilized and taken to hospital.

Reports indicate that the shooting was a gang related incident and thus should not be construed as related to the OR Tambo heists which occurred earlier in the year.

Wesgro takes the safety of tourists travelling to Cape Town and the Western Cape very seriously, as do the local and provincial governments.

Deon Cloete, General Manager of the airport has confirmed that there are no road closures or flight delays as a result of this mornings’ shooting.

SAPS are investigating and the area involved has been cordoned off for investigative purposes.

Tim Harris, CEO of Wesgro stated that “we are confident that the authorities will do everything necessary to investigate and bring to book those involved in the shooting that occurred at Cape Town International Airport this morning. This incident should not deter tourists from our beautiful city – who can rest assured that their safety is a top priority to the City and Province.”
