The Saldanha Bay IDZ (SBIDZ) is the only sector-specific Industrial Development Zone (IDZ) in South Africa. It is also the first contiguous development between back-of-port industrial land, the ports authority (Transnet) and port terminals.

It is estimated that the SBIDZ has the potential to contribute 86% to the gross geographic product of the Western Cape, creating around 12 000 new jobs.

The initial focus of the SBIDZ is the Oil & Gas and Marine Repair Cluster, which comprises three main elements: the Oil & Gas Supply Base, the Marine and Rig Repair Centre and the Fabrication Centre.

The SBIDZ operates in the second largest and most competitive downstream sector in Africa. As such, the Western Cape is well positioned to serve the rapidly expanding West African oil and gas market.
